BUCK, SWEAT AND STEERS SHOWCASED AT THE 122ND FORT WORTH STOCK SHOW AND RODEO

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, January 2, 2018 – The “Buck, Sweat & Steers” is coming back to Fort Worth with the 122nd annual Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo set to launch January 12 through February 3 at Will Rogers Memorial Center in the heart of Cowtown’s Cultural District.

Celebrating the “buck” is the 100th anniversary of indoor rodeo, recognizing when the sport was brought under the roof at what was then the North Side Coliseum. Names like Shoulders, Mahan, Frost, Ferguson, Josey and Murray, along with countless others of the sport’s legends have entertained millions of visitors during what has become known as “Stock Show Season,” by Fort Worth natives. Opportunities abound to experience the action during 36 rodeo performances that include the Best of the West Ranch Rodeo, Best of Mexico Celebraciõn, Cowboys of Color Rodeo, Bulls Night Out Extreme Bull Riding, Fort Worth Super Shootout® Rodeo and the legendary World’s Original Indoor Rodeo.

The “sweat” happens before, during and after the rodeo as, months in advance, Stock Show exhibitors prepare animals for showing and competition, rodeo contestants practice, and Stock Show volunteers put miles and miles on their collective Justin boots helping exhibitors and visitors alike find their way throughout the grounds.

It’s the “steers” that will garner the most attention as the longed-for slap to the hip signifies the winner of the Grand Champion Steer near the close of the show after more than 10,000 youth have dedicated the previous weeks to competing for awards, cash premiums, scholarships and auction proceeds earmarked to finance their potential career in animal, food, business or mechanical agriculture.

Regardless of style or taste, there’s something for everyone at the Stock Show. Children and adults alike can enjoy events, activities and exhibits related to livestock, agriculture and the food industry. Hot regional music acts entertain crowds and the carnival midway is a blast not only for the kids but the kids at heart.

& Rodeo for the 10th straight year when Mustang Magic brings its unique competition to the John Justin Arena
January 18-20.

A production of the Mustang Heritage Foundation, Mustang Magic has become an annual favorite for Stock Show patrons who are witness to the exceptional relationship that often develops between horse and trainer. The competition will feature 23 men and women who will be showing mustangs, that just months earlier, were roaming wild on the ranges of the American West. With only 100 days with which to train their animals, these horse men and women will astound fans with the skills and talents of their formerly wild charges. Trainers hail from across the nation, with three from North Texas returning, including Jonathan “J-Dub” Weisinger and Ginger Duke.

Trainers will compete in a series of preliminary classes including handling and conditioning, a pattern class, trail course and compulsory maneuvers. The Top 10 trainers will then compete in a freestyle performance for their share of $10,000 on Saturday, January 20 at 6pm.

Horses will be available for purchase to the public following the finals performance. For more information, visit www.fwssr.com or mustangheritagefoundation.org/magic.

The mission of the Mustang Heritage Foundation is to create and promote programs and activities that provide information and education about wild horses, elevate their image and desirability, provide opportunities to become involved in the wild horse experience and secure adequate numbers of caring homes for excess horses. Working in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, the Mustang Heritage Foundation is passionate about the successful placement of mustangs into private care so future generations can enjoy this distinctive feature of our American heritage. The Mustang Heritage Foundation has placed over 9,500 mustangs into private care since 2007.
